We have lots of color choices. They are basically unlimited. Visit Prismatic Powders to see all the colors we can get. Scroll down below the photo gallery for a list of colors we currently have in stock. If the color you want is not on this list, we can order it, or we can suggest one that is similar.
When looking at colors there are three color families that need to be considered:
- Illusion colors: Any of the colors with “Illusion” in the name belongs to this family. These colors will have a metallic flake in them, much like you would see on a car. Sometimes the flake is large and noticeable; other times it is so fine that it is hardly noticeable at all. These colors blend nicely with other Illusion colors and are our first choice for doing fades. Even though they blend nicely with other Illusion colors, they don’t necessarily blend well with colors from other families.
- Transparent colors: Any of the colors in the “Transparent” family are just as they sound…Transparent. These colors are deep and rich in color and can be tinted lighter or darker depending on how thick we apply it. Think of a lollypop or Jolly Rancher candy and how those look. These colors MUST be applied over a silver base, which we achieve one of two ways; A) We apply a high gloss silver powder as a base coat (superchrome or polished aluminum), or B) We apply it over a frame that has been prepped with our “Nuclear Polish”. (See below for a description of what Nuclear Polish is.) These colors blend well with other transparent colors, and may not blend well with colors from other families.
- Other colors: These colors are a solid tone and don’t have anything fancy about them. Even though we normally use a high gloss clear coat (a matte clear coat can be used if requested), these colors are rather flat looking with regards to their visual texture. Think of a car that is a solid color, such as white or black. These colors usually do not blend well with others and are best when used as a single color.
What is Nuclear Polish?
Nuclear Polish is a process we developed to work with the Transparent powder family to create a truly unique, one-of-a-kind paint job. Instead of prepping the frame by sand blasting it, we prep it by using pneumatic tools with a rotary 2″ Scotch Brite pad to polish the raw metal by removing imperfections and contaminants. This takes the frame to a near chrome appearance. Once the frame polishing is complete, we use the same tools to put a design on the surface of the metal (swirls, waves, squiggly lines, etc). Any time you see one of our mountain bikes or ski bikes and see some kind of design in the paint, it is a Nuclear Polish. Here are examples of the Nuclear Polish before the color is applied:

Once the powder is applied and baked, the design shows up through the paint. Here are a few examples after the color is applied:

What is our “Rawthic” paint scheme?
Our newest paint scheme creation is called Rawthic. It is a cross between the raw frame and a Gothic look. It creates a worn-down or rat-rod look, whatever you want to call it. The main frame color is black that is rubbed off prior to being baked on, which is what gives it the unique look that it is an old frame. The graphics are airbrushed on and can be incorporated in to the paint scheme (red graphics in the photos below), or we can leave them solid block letters (blue graphics in the photos below). A matte clear coat is applied at the end.
